What we think

With easy access from the UK, these child friendly gites are ideal for young families travelling together.

For the children there are large gardens with swings and a lovely outdoor heated pool with shallow steps. There is also an indoor play barn with toys and games including board games, ride on toys, buckets, spades and fishing nets, as well as a ball pool soft play area.

Quiet barbecue lunches can be enjoyed on the patio on days where you decide to take a break from exploring this popular and beautiful corner of France. A great holiday spot for families.

Friendly atmosphere, very relaxing...so stress-free...
"Breathtaking scenery, friendly atmosphere, very relaxing, almost like stepping back in time - so stress free..."

Most welcoming and helpful hosts...
"We have thoroughly enjoyed staying in your house. It has everything we wanted or needed and the pool has been a superb entertainment for the children (and a very pleasurable experience for the adults). You have both been the most welcoming and helpful hosts (thank you John in particular for rescuing my fire making attempt!)"

Outside

Breton Gites are something of a rural idyll, with barn owls visiting the garden and in a region with little light pollution, the clearest of night skies for star gazing.

Each gite has a private garden area for you to enjoy with your family, with garden furniture, BBQ and swings. The play barn is a renovated building next to the gites and has an abundance of toys and games, a rocking horse and soft play ball pool, which will provide hours of entertainment for your little people when a break from the sunshine is called for.

The heated, safely enclosed swimming pool is well maintained in a sunny spot and there are plenty of sun loungers and parasols dotted around it for relaxing with a good book whilst the children play; there is even a separate inflatable paddling pool for the especially little people to splash safely in.  The pool is usually open from the beginning of May to the end of September and is heated from the start of June to the first of September.

Parent point:

  • There are a couple of steps at the entrance of each gite so wobbly walkers may need a hand

And Beyond

The nearest village of Gouarec is only 1.5km away and is a great spot for those breakfast essentials: freshly baked baguettes and croissants. On foot, it takes 10-15 mins, in the car just 3 mins.  There are restaurants, cafes, a boulangerie, supermarkets and banks here too.

Being very close to Lac Guerledan means safe sandy beaches and water sports are within easy reach (only 8km away).  The lake is a great spot for some bucket and spade time, and there are a number of restaurants for leisurely family lunches too.  It is very popular with walkers and is ideal for boating, fishing, water-skiing and swimming.

If you have little pony mad princesses or noble little knights in your family, there are plenty of pony clubs in the area offering lessons and treks. The village of Bulat-Pestivien (approx. 45 mins drive) also hosts an annual 3 day horse fair in September, for which people come from miles around.

These lovely family friendly holiday properties are also within easy driving distance of the beautiful Pink Granite Coast to the north, known for its pretty beaches and rock pools perfect for little people to try their hand at crabbing (St. Brieuc, for example, is just 35 mins drive away); the west coast for surfing and the Gulf of Morbihan with its renowned sandy beaches to the south are both about an hour away.

Fantastic holiday...
"We would recommend a visit to Pontivy, the shopping street, cafes and castle. Chateauneuf en Faou is also nearby and a beautiful walk by the river. Canoes and cycles are available for hire. A 'must' is a walk or cycle down the Nantes-Brest canal in either direction! The scenery is stunning. A massive thank you to John and Lesley (the perfect hosts) for making us so comfortable and welcome. The pool speaks for itself!"

Testimonials

"What a fantastic place to stay! The pictures do not do justice to the houses or surroundings - they are beautiful and characterful. Pauline and Geof gave us a warm welcome and were great hosts throughout the week, helpful and attentive but not intrusive. The starting groceries were much appreciated as were the fresh vegetables from the garden. The pool was a great hit but the play barn is the winner for anyone with under sevens, a vast selection of toys in a safe playroom within earshot but far enough away to feel like you are having child free time! We would all return another year."
Eves and Chambers families, 2012

"The service you provided was excellent and you always went the extra mile to help us where you could. The gite had everything we could have needed and was very clean and comfortable and worked well for us when we shared with our friends (9 in total) and when we were on our own (down to 4!). The swimming pool is safe, large and warm and was kept lovely and clean as the children spent days playing in and out of the pool. We are looking forward to coming back and seeing you all again soon!"

We have had a super week here - we have enjoyed the house, pool and surroundings and feel as though we have had a proper holiday (not always the case with 5 children!) This is a delightful spot, a part of France weve not visited before, and we have had lots of lovely days out.
Mathers Family, Bristol

We had a great time in Brittany - everything we needed, especially for the kids was provided. The pool is a great facility, the area is really beautiful and quiet. We had a really relaxing time - no pressure. Thanks very much Lesley and John - we can recommend your cooking skills anytime. Slainte.
