Bastide Amandes has 6 gites in total & we have 5 on offer that are perfect for families with little people
The Bastide is really well positioned in the centre of the village and only a few minutes drive to lots of other villages which are great for a little walk around and a coffee. Only 5 minutes in the car to the nearest kiddy friendly restaurant too.
Two apartments open straight onto the enclosed terraced area with swings and outside toys, so you can relax on the terrace or by the enclosed pool, take in the view and keep a close eye on the little ones - a fab place to really relax and spend some quality family time, even the wifi and the baby listeners stretch to the pool area, where there are cold drinks and snacks served in the afternoons and evenings. The owner operates this as an honesty bar with a fridge stocked with drinks, snacks and ice creams.
The caretakers are happy to provide arrival meals and breakfasts, or babysit. They also offer a tour of their own vineyard closeby. Perhaps borrow their bikes for a trip out with the toddler trailer or try an easier game of boules instead.
For all of the details of each property, simply click on the Properties tab above and then select the property you are interested in. You will be able to check availability and pricing for each individual property.
The gites at the Bastide are identical mirror images of each other.
Gite 2 has French doors which bring you straight out onto the enclosed terrace area from your open plan living room, dining room and kitchen area, so you will be well placed to relax on your terrace or in the living room and still keep an eye on the children playing outside. Also you'll have no worries with steps or stairs around the pool or in the gite. Gite 1 is also on the ground floor with an enclosed terrace.
The living room has English freeview (& French) television, DVD player (plenty of kchildren's films) and two settees (one is a sofa bed); this area then leads into the open plan dining area. The owners have taken care in their restoration and kept the exposed stones and beams in the ceiling which give the gites a cosy feel.
The kitchen has an oven and hob, microwave and dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, fridge-freezer and sandwich maker.
A hall way leads to a separate loo and sink, and then to a double bedroom with ensuite shower and loo and a twin bedroom with ensuite shower and sink. A baby bath is provided for teeny ones.
There is a separate laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities available.
Right outside the apartments there is an enclosed terrace area with seating and shade where there are plenty of outside toys (hopscotch, hoopla, swings, slide & climbing rope). The pool is right next door and is also enclosed and gated and has lots of blow up toys. The child friendly salt filtered pool (no chlorine) has just undergone a makeover and now has an even larger shallow toddler area, great for the kiddies.
The pool house has comfortable chairs, chess and backgammon, toddler table and chairs and outdoor toys, a great place to get out of the sun for a little while or perhaps park a buggy with a sleeping tot. A large selection of bikes are available for all ages, including child seat, toddler chariot and safety helmets.
You have excellent views from the pool area to the centre of the village and the hills in the distance, across the countryside.
There is easy private parking just next to the apartment.
The owners have their own vineyard in the village, that you are welcome to visit.
For the children...
Shady area in the pool house for cooler outside play.
The Bastide is situated in the centre of a small agricultural village, only a few metres from fields of vines with great views over to the Cevennes mountains, yet you can just nip out for a baguette first thing in the morning.
It's close to lots of villages that are great for their cafes and a little walk if you don't want to go far one morning. One lovely spot for a visit is Medieval Sauve and it's weekly market, tiny backstreets and leafy terraces (not to mention a handful of really original restaurants).
The Bastide is a short drive from the new man-made beach near Ales on the Gardon river, open June to August, there is entertainment laid on, easy parking and shallow water swimming for the kiddies. You can rent sunbeds, umbrellas, kayaks and pedal boats.
Nearby Anduze has its own steam train http://www.trainavapeur.com/ that you can take towards the lovely shady garden of the Bambouseraie http://www.bambouseraie.com/, fabulous in the heat of the Summer for a walk and excellent for hide and seek games! The train ends up in St Jean du Gard, famous for Robert Louis Stevenson and his 'Travels with a Donkey'.
Also in nearby Anduze, there is the Gardon river with its pebble beach (great for a paddle or a bit of net fishing) and its fabulous cliffs - go a little upstream and you'll find companies who will teach you how to pan for gold! Oh, and bring back one of Anduze's famous pots for your garden (or to use as an eggcup)!
Nip up to the area around Uzes and you'll be able to go kayaking under the Pont du Gard, visit the Haribo sweet museum and visit the weekly Saturday market in Uzes. Uzes is also excellent for window shopping for antiques and those knick knacks you never knew you needed.
Avignon is an hour or so's drive away - go and dance on the Pont and then take a visit to the Palais de Papes - it really is stunning. On the way back visit Roman Nimes and imagine yourself with the lions in the arena, then take a walk around the Jardins des Fontaines and the lovely little backstreets of Nimes.
The Camargue isn't so far away: book a riding trip through the etangs (lakes) at dusk and watch the sun go down (the riding isn't that difficult, honest!) It'll be a moment neither you nor the little people will ever forget.
And if that's not enough, there is plenty to do on a rare rainy day, from the Amazonian Greenhouse in Montpellier to the Pirate Restaurant, the Aquarium, Plantarium, indoor climbing area, Go Karting and Bowling - all near Montpellier.
Finally, don't forget the beach - less than a hour away you'll find beaches that range from wild (L'Espinguette at Grau du Roi) to kiddy friendly at Palavas, La Grande Motte and Carnon Plage.
