Avoid a Car Rental Queue!

A Great Deal?
4 Hours in the queue for car rental?

No Way!

Getting a family of 5 galvanised and on the plane is no mean feat. It requires heroic levels of organisation, an enormously early start and the patience of a saint to deal with the mounting excitement of 3 children who, on landing, can sense that they are just a few moments from the cool of the pool.…..but are they?

Particularly if you’ve booked your car hire purely on price.

If you’ve booked through a price comparison website then you could have a hot, sticky 4 hour wait on your hands. Until you have booked, you won’t know which company you have landed up with-you may never have heard of it.

So what’s happening here? It’s fairly simple really. Those car hire companies that have got their act together online and can force their prices down, win. And while they count their pennies, we get to stand in the queue. Lucky us! How many of us would pay an extra £10, £20, £30 extra, more perhaps, for the benefit of not standing in that queue for 4 hours with tired, fractious children? Many of us I’m sure.

Missing A Trick

The car hire companies are missing such a trick. Stop competing purely on price and offer us something that guarantees us a way to get our holiday off to a smooth, efficient start. Simplify, speed up the process, offer us a family friendly holiday service, give families with children a priority. Anything! Anything would have to better than what is happening at the moment. We’d buy it.

And, don’t even get me started on the fact that once you’ve got to the desk their underhand ways mean that car firms extort yet more money out of the tired, hot, frustrated traveller in the form of confusing excess waivers and the like.

A Plea To Car Hire Firms

Come on car hire firms! It can’t be that difficult to come up with a clever, innovative, customer-centric package that spare us the long queues. You’ll win the battle for business if you do!

Hi there, does anyone have any good recommendations for a reliable (and speedy service) car hire company at Malaga airport?

Hi Frostie, Have you had a look at malagacars.com as mentioned by Kerry in the above comment?

Thanks ladies – it really is a case of insider knowledge isn’t it?

We have just returned from malaga. My top tip is go for a car hire firm that is based off site. We used malagacars.com. They pick you up from departures in a small mini bus, a two minute drive to the office and we were away within fifteen minutes. Our return was even easier. As it was quiet when we arrived at the office a member of staff simply jumped into the driving seat and took the whole family back to the departures gate complete with luggage. we had a zero excess policy and it was cheaper than all the main competitors I looked at.

Well said. I’ve had a massive battle this summer with car rental firms! I would LOVE to tell my guests about a great rental company which we can highly recommend but in 9 years of villa ownership we have yet to find one :(. Like you say they are missing a trick – people want a fair price (that isn’t going to change when they arrive), fast service and, don’t get me started on 7 euros a day for a car booster seat!!!

It’s not a secret that some car rental companies try to deceive the customers while offering mush lower prices than other companies (not including the taxes, fuel price insurance and other charges). That’s why, it is very important to choose the reliable rental company. Even in such developed country like Italy (mentioned by the article’s author), there’s a chance to be fooled.

    Hi Wendy,

Thank you so much for highlighting this awful situation travellers are faced when booking a ” Cheaper Car Hire Deal”……. Alicante Airport also has huge queues at the Gold Car rental office. Customers are often attracted into booking these cheaper deals via the airlines website along with their flight tickets.

Our lovely villa is with your website and I ALWAYS stress to our guests how important it is to avoid the airline linked car rental companies and highly recommend a company we have used for over 9 years, Javea Cars……no queues, free child seats, free extra driver, you even have the option to ay for just half a tank of fuel! along with a great friendly personal service. These great companies are out there, offering super cars, perhaps, a little more expensive but well worth it.

Wouldn’t it be great for families and guests If any of your other villa owners could recommend their preferred Car Hire companies, we can help share the love and avoid the queues!!

Thanks Kay, This is really great advance for people flying into Alicante. Free child seats is really great and we’d certainly love to hear from anyone else who can recommend good hire car.
