The lovely two-bedroom cottage has a traditional French kitchen, which is spacious with a range cooker, marble worktops, and all of the essentials, such as a microwave and a dishwasher.

The separate sitting room has two cosy sofas and a stocked bookcase, and a set of stable doors lead out into the beautiful courtyard.

Up the gated stairs, there are two bedrooms: a king and a twin.  Both bedrooms have beautiful views out over the valleys, but also have wooden shutters, so that the room is dark enough at night for blissful sleep and well-deserved lie-ins.

The family bathroom is also conveniently upstairs, with a bath tub and an overhead shower.

Outside in the courtyard, L’Annexe is a quaint little stone building, which is ideal if you are travelling with friends or grandparents – it consists of a double bedroom, a dressing room and a shower room with a large walk-in shower.

Parent Point:

  • Although the stairs are gated top and bottom, they are steep, so little ones may need a little extra help

Le Grenier doesn’t have a garden, but it does have a charming courtyard, which is covered in wisteria and honeysuckle; out here, you’ll find garden furniture and a built-in barbecue – the perfect spot to tuck into the delicious local produce that you can pick up from the nearby markets.

If you need any herbs or spices to add to the flavour, some pasta to team it with, or just a good ole cuppa to enjoy, you can choose some from the help-yourself larder.

Play Time

There is so much for little ones to do, from several different play areas to a heated pool and paddling pool, which have inflatable toys and rubber ducks to play with – they sit in the shade, along with a playpen, so you don’t need to worry about your little ones’ sensitive skin in the sun.

There is a play area with a house, climbing cube, slide and rockers; a large indoor play barn, which has lots of toys and dress-up clothes; a large sand playground, with buckets and spades; an adventure playground in lots of shade; a climbing frame designed especially for tots, as well as one for older children.

The facilities are endless, with a tennis court, badminton, table tennis, boules, football, board games, chess, draughts and cards, and a selection of toys, cars, dolls, trains, books, fancy dress clothes, games, puzzles and crayons.

The gîtes are surrounded by fields, lawns and walnut orchards, so there are plenty of spots to play in.

Helpful Services

Your hosts can arrange for nappies, baby food, and essentials to be in your property when you arrive, as well as meals in your fridge, that you can heat up once you have settled in.

Other services include English babysitters, massages in your gîte, housekeepers, bike hire for adults and kids, and a shopping service.

Your gîte is kitted out with its own fully-fitted kitchen, but if you don’t fancy cooking, then there is a selection of meals available.

You can enjoy the meals at the bar or if you fancy a family night in, you can take meals back to your house to reheat.  There are vegetarian choices and Tiny Tots meals.

On Tuesdays, your hosts organise a family evening where meals can be eaten together.  It could be a French themed evening or an open-air cooking event with woodfired pizza oven and large barbecues.

Once the little ones have finished eating, your hosts will pop on a children’s film in the barn, so you can carry on eating and socialising while keeping an eye on the kids.

Each morning, children love collecting fresh croissants and baguettes  from the toy barn to take to mummy and daddy.

The medieval village of Belves is only five minutes’ drive away and is the most convenient place to head to if you want to pick up some bits and bobs, as there is a supermarket, as well as restaurants, cafes, a pharmacy, banks and a beautician.

Market day is on a Saturday, so you can pick up some delicious local produce, and in July and August, there is an additional evening market on Wednesdays, where you can sit down at one of the tables, and select what you want to eat from the surrounding stalls.

Bournat Village

A 25 minute drive away, Bournat Village is a theme village, which shows what life was like in rural France around the year 1900 and kids love it here.  There are rides, boating plus old fashioned games to play.

Bugue Aquarium

This Aquarium is the biggest freshwater aquarium in Europe, and has a family-friendly atmosphere with lots of interesting displays.

Emerge from the aquariums to the outdoor pools, where you can see a pool full of turtles, or participate in feeding the fish.  There is also the Anaconda House, full of lizards and serpents, and the new alligator park.

One of the most beautiful villages in France, Limeuil is a 25 minute drive away, and is home to a pretty river beach, where you can splash and play – the village sits at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vezere Rivers.

Wander along cobbled streets, up through the village, between honey-coloured houses and scattered pretty gardens – bliss!

If you fancy some food after hours splashing on the river beach, head to the very traditional Le Chai restaurant, on the old port, or A l’Ancre de Salut, a snack bar, which opens in the summer, so you can sit out on the terrace next to the river.

Situated on the confluence of the Dordogne and Ceou rivers, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is a 25 minute drive away, and is home to Chateau de Castelnaud, which sits at the top of the village, with spectacular views along the Ceou valley.

There’s loads for little ones to do at the castle, with question and answer game booklets, a reading room with comic strips, and a computer game; there are several cafes around Castelnaud, so you can pop for a hot drink afterwards.

Marqueyssac Gardens

Marqueyssac Gardens feature intricate rolling hedge carvings, and overlook the Dordogne.  There is a children’s maze and some games areas dotted around the gardens, so little ones can have loads of fun.

The Tea Room and ice cream parlour has shaded outdoor dining areas, and also serves light meals, which are prepared by a well-known local chef.
