Villa Amalia is a modern, light and airy holiday home with a welcoming feel.

Combining traditional Algarve design with ground-breaking and ecologically-advanced construction techniques, the villa features a clever ‘Coolhouse' system which brings cooled air inside through underground tubes to ensure a constant temperature day and night.  Heating is also installed for comfort in the winter.

The spacious open plan living area, comprising the sitting room, dining space and kitchen, is furnished in a mix of maple and white New England-style furniture.  There is plenty of natural light from three sets of French doors opening onto the covered terrace, making it easy to combine indoor and outdoor living.

The sitting room has a comfy corner sofa and chairs as well as a television and DVD player.

The dining table can seat up to eight and is next to the contemporary white and granite kitchen, great for mealtimes with the children or an evening get-together. You may prefer to make the most of the Algarve sunshine and dine outside on the terrace.

Separated from the dining area by a breakfast bar cum island, the kitchen is well-equipped with an oven/hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washer/dryer - and fabulous views from the window above the sink.

The villa has three main bedrooms, two doubles both with en suite facilities and a twin, all designed to ensure a good night's rest or relaxing afternoon nap.

One double has space for a cot and an en suite bathroom with a shower over the bath.

The second double bedroom also has room for a cot and lovely French doors opening onto the garden.  The en suite has a corner shower.

The children's bedroom is roomy with twin beds.

There is also a modern separate family-sized shower room.

An added bonus is a study, which could be used as a play room or quiet space to escape the heat of the sun, with a sofa bed.

A staircase, with a child safety gate at the bottom, leads up to a roof terrace with contemporary outdoor furniture and delightful far-reaching views over the garden and resort beyond. This is a great area for the grown-ups to enjoy time together - perhaps with a glass of something chilled - when the children are tucked up in bed.

Parent points:

  • The open tread staircase and banister design in the hall could encourage children to climb.  There is a child safety gate across the doorway to the living areas to prevent access to the hallway and the stairs to the roof terrace are gated at the bottom. An extra gate is provided for the top if required.
  • Children should only be allowed on the roof terrace when supervised by an adult.

Go Outdoors: Pool, garden, bbq and outdoor play:

The fully-enclosed back garden is well-maintained and a haven for children and adults alike.

The south-facing terrace has amazing views over the countryside to the coastal hill and is partially shaded by a pergola.  A range of contemporary furniture offers opportunity for outdoor dining and relaxing - with a gas barbecue for cooking al fresco meals.

The super 4m x 9.25m heated swimming pool (heating at an additional charge), which has the shallow end closest to the terrace, is perfect for serious swimmers and those who just want to splash around.  It features a 'KatchaKid' net for safety.

The large lawned garden has plenty of room for fun and games or to laze on the sun loungers watching the children in, or out, of the pool.

At the front, the villa has parking for up to four cars plus a small garden and lawn.

Parent point:

  • The front driveway opens onto the road, which is only used by resort traffic, but children should be supervised at all times when at the front of the villa

The resort is the perfect family destination, whether you want to keep the kids busy, try something new, or simply relax together.

Kids' Club

The team of qualified child carers at the Kids' Club organises lots of activities to keep little ones entertained, featuring theme days, songs, drama, arts and crafts, dance, games, sports, competitions and story times.

The action-packed morning club runs from mid-July until the end of August, for youngsters between the ages of four and eight.

Tennis Club

Tennis fans will want to head for the resort club which has four floodlit synthetic grass courts and equipment available to hire.   Coaching sessions are available for all ages and abilities and can be booked with the resident coach.

Children's Playground

In a lovely location close to the tennis club and on the edge of a shady pine copse, the fully-enclosed children's playground features lots of fun equipment like slides and swings.  Grown-ups can keep an eye on little ones from the wooden benches.

Mini Football Pitch

Adults and children will find this grass pitch is perfect for five-a-side football or a knockabout with friends.

Day Spa

Escape for a few hours to the relaxing haven of the spa and indulge yourself in one of the wide selection of treatments.  Individual and tailored week-long wellness programmes are also available, designed to optimise your energy levels and sense of well-being.

Exercise Studio

The exercise studio offers group classes and activities including Yoga, Zumba and Nia dance.

Babysitting Service

If you fancy spending some quality time together as a couple, or maybe want to take time out to pursue separate activities, the resort offers a babysitting service for an additional charge.

And more...

The resort has a number of other activities and added extras including mountain bikes to hire for exploring the resort's trails and local area, table tennis, a children's buddy scheme to team up youngsters of similar ages plus, for an additional charge, home-cooked meals, chef service and supermarket delivery.

And Beyond

The resort is at the gateway to the beautiful Costa Vicentina National Park in the heart of unspoilt Algarve countryside yet only a few minutes' drive from pretty villages, lively towns, beautiful sandy beaches and family attractions.

Burgau

Burgau, the nearest village, is just a five-minute drive from the resort and has a small supermarket and shops and a number of restaurants, bars and cafes, many of which are child-friendly.

The golden sandy beach is popular with families and has an excellent beach bar.

Praia da Luz

The pretty whitewashed village of Praia da Luz is less than a 10-minute drive to the east.

Here you'll find a wider selection of restaurants and cafes, two supermarkets, plus a chemist, dentist and doctor's surgery.

There is also a lovely low-key beach where the The Beach Hut Watersports Centre offers a host of activities including sea bird and dolphin-watching trips as well as a water sports kids' club for eight to 16-year-olds with sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, kayaking and banana rides.

Lagos

Although popular with tourists, Lagos still manages to retain its traditional charm.

A 20-minute journey from the resort, there is plenty to enjoy and explore in this bustling town, the largest in the area.

The super five kilometre long golden sandy beach is ideal for picnics, paddling and sandcastle building and the kids will love the 'pirate ship' trip on an old Portuguese Cravelle.

The Saturday morning farmers' market - Portuguese style and very different to those in the UK and France - has lots of home-grown produce.

While the busy fish market, which has a top floor restaurant with stunning views over Lagos Bay, opens early every day.

If you are feeling peckish there are a lots of child-friendly restaurants and pavement cafes lining the cobbled streets.

In the summer evenings head for the town square to watch the street entertainers.

For the children, there's the popular Lagos Zoo, the fun Children's Science Centre or go-karting at the Autodromo.

Loule

For a more traditional taste of Portuguese life, take a drive to the pretty town of Loule, famous for the imposing walls of the 13th century castle

About an hour from Villa Olivia, there are art galleries, a museum, several interesting churches and lots of cafes and shops in the criss-crossing network of cobbled streets.

The daily market is a lively affair and there are popular music festivals during the summer.

Golf

The Algarve is famous for golf, so if you fancy a round there's no shortage of courses close to the resort with several suitable for skilled players and those less experienced within a short drive of Villa Amalia.

And More...

Whatever your family's interests you're sure to find something suitable in the local area - whether it's sailing and scuba diving, pony trekking and bird-watching or Portuguese cookery and painting lessons.

For many families, going away for less than a week may not be practicable. Closer to home though, short stays can be a great option and the calendars will allow you to select anything from 3 nights or more where this is available. If you are travelling outside of the school holidays (which of course we recommend if you can), consider arriving and departing on non-standard days (why not try 11 nights for example) as you can get some great deals both on your accommodation and on flights.
