Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

Princess Calero is cool and bright, with exceptionally high quality decor and furniture throughout the single-storey villa.

The living area, with its traditional Canarian wooden ceiling, is extremely spacious with super-comfy leather sofas, huge satellite television with Sky freeview channels, DVD player, Wii and WiFi. The dining area can seat eight with ease. There are sliding doors to the poolside terraces and all windows feature electric shutters.

Spending time in the modern fitted kitchen will be anything but a chore thanks to the plethora of equipment including a split level oven, centre island with four-ring hob, microwave, dishwasher, American-style fridge/freezer and coffee maker. A useful utility room houses the washing machine.

Drifting off to sleep in the four fabulous bedrooms (three doubles and a twin), will be a breeze. All have air conditioning, a 40-inch flat screen television and patio doors leading to the pool area with electric shutters which act to prevent light coming in and children getting out!

Two doubles and the twin also have an en-suite shower room - with massage shower - while the master bedroom, with its king size bed, leather couch and coffee table, boasts an en-suite bathroom with a separate shower and huge corner bath.

Parent points:

  • Keep bedroom patio doors to the terrace closed (shutters can be kept down) to prevent children inadvertently gaining access to the pool
  • Use main doors onto the terrace when children are awake so they are limited to the fenced terrace area, allowing you to control access to the pool area, and around the back of the villa to the entrance and road

Outdoors

Villa Princess Calero's outdoor living space is just as impressive as the inside of this lovely holiday home.

Grand south-facing terraces provide plenty of places for the whole family to sit in comfort. The large outdoor barbecue is sure to prove popular with those who want to enjoy dining al fresco in Lanzarote's year-round sunshine and take in the breath-taking views over the Atlantic Ocean and mountains, and the impressive Hesperia 5* hotel which is next door.

Immediately outside the doors to the terrace is a fenced area, surrounding the outdoor dining space, and preventing children gaining access to the pool or to the area beyond and behind the villa. The pool itself does not have a seperate enclosure.

The super-size 4m x 12m salt water swimming pool - heated from November to April - will appeal to both keen adult swimmers and little ones who like splashing around. Grown-ups not taking the plunge can keep an eye on the children from the poolside loungers.

There's also a Jacuzzi, the perfect spot to watch the sun go down, with a glass of something chilled, when the children are in bed.

Parent points:

  • Use main doors onto the terrace when children are awake so they are limited to the fenced terrace area, allowing you to control access to the pool area, and around the back of the villa to the entrance and road
  • Many of the indigenous plants can be spiky, so do point this out to little ones who might be tempted to explore the flower beds
  • Beyond the pool the garden is split level - there is a single but significant step down to the BBQ area
  • The pool steps are into the deep end and there is no shallow end for very small children to easily splash around in
  • Although not usually needed pool heating is available in the summer months of May to end October and can be requested at the time of booking at an additional cost of £90

What's Around?

Despite the obvious attractions of Villa Princess Calero, it is worth venturing outside to discover more about the beautiful island of Lanzarote.

Fabulous and plentiful beaches, lively resorts, an awe-inspiring volcanic landscape and a fascinating history, Lanzarote has something to appeal young and old.

And, at just 37 miles long and 12 miles wide, attractions are easily accessible.

Puerto Calero itself has a lot to offer, from the bustling marina, boutique shops, small beach and open-air bars and restaurants to submarine and boat excursions and the nearby 5-star Hesperia Hotel with its spa, sports club and restaurants.

Further afield, there's the opportunity to visit - and sample the produce - at one of several vineyards, while youngsters of all ages will have a great time at the Aquapark in Costa Teguise.

A family outing to Timanfaya National Park's lava moonscape and extinct volcanoes andthe Cueva de los Verdes, or Green Caves, a 6km long volcanic tunnel where the island's inhabitants used to hide from pirates is a must.

While those interested in the architecture of the island will want to visit the home, in Haría, and studio, in Taro de Tahiche, of artist César Manrique. Lanzarote's most famous son, Manrique influenced the distinctive whitewashed cuboid buildings that can be found all over the island.

A visit to Haría, and the coastal fishing villages around Arrieta, offer a more traditional view of Lanzarote and its people.
