Borg Family, July 2019
Wonderful holiday. The pool was beautiful, so clean. The owner was lovely and very very helpful. I just wish there was air conditioning.
Morris Family, May 2019
A fantastic family holiday. Our children (4 & 2) loved the playroom and outdoor play area. The pool and outside area were beautifully maintained, clean and safe. The hosts were very helpful. Lots of good things to do without travelling too far - we especially liked Colliure, Castellnou and Villefranche. And the supermarket was only 5 minutes drive away too. A great place for a family holiday. We are already thinking of booking again for next year.
The Oughton Family, August 2017
An amazing holiday, the perfect venue for a family with young children and brilliant hosts - Henri offering us freshly picked figs while we were enjoying our evening meal was just lovely. Couldn't recommend more highly, we will go again.
The Pearmain Family, September 2015
Great accommodation with brilliant facilities for young children. Our host was incredibly helpful and friendly.
Family stayed 2014
Thank you for an amazing time at your beautiful home. We arrived home after a 14 hour drive, talking about the wonderful times we spent at Les Caves - the pool, the apricots and the nicest hosts. Thank you for all your kind hospitality and I'm certain we will return.
The Barber Family, June 2014
We would like to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Les Caves. We found it very peaceful and relaxing. The gite was spacious and well equipped for our needs. As a family we had a wonderful time together. Our grandson Lucas especially enjoyed the play barn.

As this is a cluster property, not all equipment is stored within the property. It is therefore important that the items you require are requested using your booking form before arrival, so that they can be placed in your property.
Rousanne sleeps up to six (plus infants in cots) in three bedrooms, with a flexible layout depending on your needs.
From your outside terrace, enter the property via large doors to an open plan living and dining room, luxuriously furnished with brown sofas, solid oak tables and benches with a selection of stunning art by a local artist decorating the walls. A TV (French TV and CNN news channels) and DVD player are there and you can borrow DVDs from the library in the games room. From the dining area, you reach a good size fully fitted kitchen with everything you’d need to make life easy including hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine.
Heading up the stairs, which are gated top and bottom for children’s safety, you will find a lovely double bedroom with fitted wardrobes and a private terrace with views towards the gardens and pool. This is a good tucked away spot to hang wet swimming gear too. A second bedroom can be arranged either as a double bed or two singles depending on your requirements. There is also a shower room with WC.
You’ll find a third bedroom on the top level that has the flexibility of an additional single bed. The room leads onto a roof terrace with views towards Les Alberes Mountains with recliners to lounge in while soaking up the scenery. This level also has a bath/shower with WC.
Le Mas is situated along a very quiet country road, with very little traffic as there are only a couple of other properties in the vicinity, making it peaceful and safe.
Les Caves Rousanne is fourth along a terrace of five similar stone cottages converted from old stone wine cuves, all of which face the swimming pool. You will enjoy your own private covered terrace complete with BBQ and dining area for al fresco meals in the warm air.
Just beyond your private terrace is a large sunny area which runs the length of all the properties. A grassy area just above this is accessed via a couple of steps set into a low wall. This in turn leads to a sizeable heated swimming pool, fully enclosed so that children can play safely in the expansive gardens without any fear of them falling in. Numerous sun loungers are dotted around the pool on a wide, sunny terrace. To escape the heat, a pretty pergola provides a shady retreat.
The huge park-like gardens will keep children of all ages happily entertained once they’ve had enough swimming. There’s plenty of room for ball games or hide ‘n seek, with shady trees to laze under looking for fairies or bugs. If the pool and garden aren’t enough, there’s also a fantastic playbarn with ride on toys, soft play and toddler gym equipment. Just outside, kids will also love the adventure playground and sandpit. There are plenty of toys for all ages, while older kids will enjoy the ping pong table and board games.
To ensure all children are kept safe, a gate closes off the terrace from the parking area. There is one other separate holiday
It will be hard to leave your fantastic holiday property, but it is definitely worth heading out to explore the local area. This sunny region of France, very close to the Spanish border, boasts over 300 sunny days a year making it easy to take advantage of the wealth of activities and sites nearby.
Heading out on foot from the property, you can reach some nearby farms who will gladly sell you local produce, honey and fresh eggs. But just a short car ride away you will reach the town of Thuir, which has somehow avoided being overrun with tourists. This means you can experience an authentic rural French town, bustling with a Saturday market, cafes, delis and shops where you can buy fresh food for delicious meals on your terrace. Alternatively enjoy eating out at some of the many child-friendly or gourmet restaurants in town. Don’t forget to visit the world’s largest oak vat at Les Caves Byrrh where you can also sample the local pernod.
Another option is a visit to nearby Castlenou, a quaint fortified village hiding behind stone walls, with a maze of cobbled streets and eateries to explore
If you don’t want to spend your days driving for hours but would like a couple of day trips during your week, here are some suggestions by category:
If you experience a rare rainy day, it might be a good time to head to Perpignan just twenty minutes away. A pretty city to take a stroll through should the sun come out, it also offers a cinema and bolwing while nearby is Sigean Safari Park, which you can explore via self drive. Further afield in Toulouse (two hours away) is Space City for, a great space-themed park with imax, planetarium, stellarium and much more.
Fancy going in search of the Holy Grail? This part of France is littered with historic castles, ruins and sites linked to the crusades and the Cathars. Try the mountain top fortress of Peyrepertuse, the largest of the ‘Five Castles of Carcassonne’, for a flavour of medieval history.
Beach lovers are spoilt for choice. Driving just forty minutes via the pretty cathedral town of Elne, you’ll arrive at the sweeping white sand beaches of Cote Vermeille. You could tie a beach visit into an afternoon at Saint-Cyprien’s Aqualand waterpark or head further along the coast to Canet Plage with its watersports marina and nature reserve. If you prefer quiet beach coves instead, head along the coast towards Spain and visit the lovely fishing towns of Collioure, Port Vendres and Banyuls. Be sure to seek out some of the local wine cuves for wine tasting while in this area.
Particularly for families with older kids or teens in search of a bit of a thrill, take a day trip to the Pyrenees. In winter, go skiing in winter at Font Romeu or Pyrenees 2000, or white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking or mountaineering in warmer months. Younger kids after a bit of mountain excitement will enjoy the famous ‘Yellow Train’ that runs from the fortified town of Villefranche-de-Conflent or the largest grotto in Europe - Les Grandes Canalettes – with incredible stalagmites, earning it the name of ‘the underground Versailles of the Pyrenees’. For speed demons, try Europe’s largest Go Karting track at Rivesaltes.
To experience the mountains without the high octane activities, head in the direction of Ceret, famous for its cherry orchards and unusual Saturday morning market. There are plenty of stunning mountainside villages with breathtaking views as you meander into the Pyrenees, including the beautiful spa town of Amelie Les Bains at an altitude of 230metres.
Head to Spain
This region of France, previously part of Spain, has a unique Catalan culture. But if you fancy getting a real taste of two countries in one holiday, why not head across the Spanish border, just twenty minutes from Thuir. Head straight for the sights of Barcelona (two hours drive) or try the home of Salvidor Dali – Figueres (fifty minutes) – or the sandy beaches of Roses (just over an hour).
Before booking, please read our Terms and Conditions.
