Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

L'Atelier benefits from simple, uncluttered styling, which allows the gite's natural charm shine through.

Exposed stone walls, wooden floors and original oak ceiling beams and trusses, are all testament to this beautifully-renovated building's heritage.

The living accommodation is open plan, comprising a comfortable sitting area, dining space and kitchen.

Although small and simple, the kitchen is well equipped and provides all the holiday essentials including an oven/hob, fridge/freezer and microwave.  A washing machine and tumble dryer can be found in the resort laundry room just a short walk from L'Atelier beside the creche.

Upstairs, with child safety gates at the top and bottom, are two bedrooms and a shower room.

The master bedroom has plenty of atmosphere with a wooden floor, exposed stone walls and original wooden beams and trusses. There's also a children's bedroom with wooden bunk beds.

The modern shower room, in common with all the holiday cottages, villas and apartments, comes with a baby bath for the tiny tots.

Parent Points:

  • The age of this property means the entrance door and a number of beams upstairs are very low so please take care not to bump your head
  • Although the stairs are gated at the top and bottom they are steep so children will need to be supervised and adults carrying children should take extra care

Outdoors

L'Atelier shares a fully-enclosed lawned garden with two neighbouring gites, although a low dividing hedge runs along much of its length to provide a degree of separation.

An outdoor dining table and chairs and a brick-built barbecue are perfect for dining al fresco, while comfortable loungers offer the opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy the summer sun.

The garden backs onto the resort's main swimming pools and there's a secure gate providing access to this area in the wall.

The close proximity means the baby monitor - one of the items supplied in our Tots Essential Kit Guarantee - is within range of the swimming pool allowing you, if you so wish, to take a dip while your little one is having an afternoon nap or tucked up in bed for the night.  However, being so close also means the sound of families enjoying the pool can be heard in the gîte and garden.

Longeveau's other facilities at this fabulous family-friendly resort are a few short steps from the gîte.

Parent Points:

  • Although the shared garden is fully-enclosed the gite's lawned area is not. Hedges provide boundaries and privacy between neighbours
  • There are two steps up to garden from the door in the sitting area
  • Guests staying in the gites on either side of L'Atelier have access to the garden gate leading to the resort's main swimming pools
  • A considerable distance - on the other side of the golf course - from L'Atelier are two open lakes which, because of their size, can not be fenced for safety

What's Around?

Away from the rural tranquility and fabulous facilities at Longeveau, this region of France has plenty to appeal to the whole family.

Saint-Séverin

Saint-Séverin, just 5km away, is the nearest of a number of pretty villages within easy reach of L'Atelier.
The village is home to several small shops, including a bakery, butcher, chemist and supermarket, as well as local services.
There is also a popular small market every Thursday morning.

Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne
In the opposite direction about the same distance from Longeveau is one of France's 'most beautiful villages' Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne.
Clinging to a hillside above the River Dronne, wander this lovely village's narrow streets, take time out in one of the pavement cafes or visit one of the many historical attractions.
The puppet theatre in the central square is popular with youngsters and adults alike, with classic tales such as Beauty and the Beast and Ali Baba.  Be sure to book though, as the shows are popular.
The village is most well-known for its huge Underground Church of St Jean, or monolithic church, carved out of the rock.  It is 20m at its highest point and the tallest of its kind in the world.  For a spectacular view of the interior climb the stone staircase up to the first floor.
The river beach is great for all the family.  Perfect for picnics and paddling, there's also a children's playground, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and a cafe.

Bonnes
If you have young equestrians in the family head for Bonnes, another pretty village less than half an hour from Longeveau, where there is a pony club for children of all ages and abilities.
For those who prefer getting around on two feet there is also a wonderful 11km countryside walk, Circuit de Bonnes.
The village holds a festival in August when the grand finale is a spectacular fireworks display.

Riberac

An attractive, but relatively quiet town, Riberac is buzzing on a Friday morning when it stages one of the biggest and best markets in the Dordogne.
Just 16km from Longeveau, there are also lots of local shops, including wine caves, a couple of big supermarkets and plenty of child-friendly restaurants.
Free music evenings are held in the town square on Tuesday nights in July and August.

La Jemaye
A large lake with beaches, a play area woodland walks and a hide to watch the birds on the lake can be found in this little hamlet - an easy half-an-hour's drive from L'Atelier.
And, if you get peckish there are several family-friendly eateries.
During July and August sporting activities and events are staged, including water skiing and cycling.

Angoulème
The ramparted city of Angoulème is the capital of Charente and home to stunning architecture, traditional markets and beautiful gardens.
A 45-minute drive from Longeveau, the city centre has a myriad of shops from familiar high street names to traditional French boutiques.
After indulging in some retail therapy, take time out to visit one of the many pavement cafes or dine in a choice of family-friendly restaurants.
The city is the world capital for Bande Dessinée - comic strip - and many of the buildings are decorated in this style and there's a museum dedicated to the art.
Kizou Adventures, in Angoulème's mountain shopping zone, is a great indoor playground with all the usual ball pools, ropes and soft play, for little ones aged from six months to 10 years.
And for more family fun, the fabulous Plan d'Eau water lake is just outside the city.
Here you'll find several super beaches and a wide range of water sports.

Cognac
Cognac, about an hour away from Longeveau, is famous for the spirit made in the town for more than 300 years.
By the river you'll discover the ancient warehouses that still store barrels of cognac and are blackened by the alcohol evaporating.
A cruise on a replica gabarre, the traditional flat-bottomed oak boat that once transported cognac, salt and other produce, is a great way to see the town from the river and takes about two hours.
Signposted walking routes lead visitors through different parts of the town - and also by the river you'll see the ancient warehouses that still store barrels of cognac and are blackened by the alcohol evaporating.
Unsurprisingly, one of the most popular tourist attractions is a tour of one - or more - of the many cognac producers to discover the drink's history, how it is made and sample a tasting.
While in the area you could combine a trip to Cognac with a fun-packed visit to nearby Les Antilles de Jonzac indoor water park, one of the largest in Europe.
For the little ones there's a main lagoon with beaches, palm trees, a tropical glasshouse, slides and water toboggan ride.
More serious swimmers can take the plunge in the a 25m sports pool where games and events are organised for children and teenagers.
For the grown-ups there is a fitness and health centre with Turkish and Roman baths, a sauna, jacuzzis, a solarium, fitness equipment and a beauty area offering a variety of treatments.

Saint-Emilion
A little further afield Saint-Emilion is one of the four Bordeaux wine regions and produces some of the finest wine in the world.
The village, about an hour-and-a-quarter from L'Atelier, is surrounded by vineyards and chateaux and there are lots of opportunities to sample and buy.
Even without wine, Saint-Emilion would deserve a visit - with pretty winding streets, pavement cafes, restaurants, local shops, and historical buildings and monuments.
The Romanesque church features a beautiful 14th century cloister and if you climb the bell tower you'll be rewarded with magnificent views over the town and surrounding vineyards.
There's also a great view from the top of the Chateau du Roy 13th century donjon in the centre of town - after you've negotiated the 118 steps.
A labyrinth of passages and rooms run deep under the village and there are guided tours taking in the catacombs and another impressive buried monolithic church, this time the biggest in Europe.
There's also an underground pottery museum with exhibits from the Roman period to modern day.

Beaches
A sunshine holiday wouldn't be complete without a day trip to the beach and there are several gorgeous ones about a two-hour drive from Longeveau.
Among them are Arcachon and Royan, both with great beaches, warm water and family-friendly facilities.
As well as several sandy beaches, Arcachon boasts a picturesque sea-front promenade, plenty of shops, bars and eateries.
The resort is also home to the fun-packed Aqualand water park with rides and slides for all ages which is open from June to September.
Royan's beaches are, arguably, the finest in France.
The main 2km long La Grande Conche has a special children's section with a variety of activities and a lifeguard in the summer.
North of the town is a series of sandy coves and beyond are unspoilt and wild stretches of beach.

And more....
A host of other leisure activities are available within the local area from jet skiing and quad biking to mini-golf and go-karting.
The local villages and towns also host a variety of family-friendly festivals, fetes and fireworks displays throughout the summer.
