Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

The open plan living accommodation at La Petite Ferme is quite simply stunning - a beautiful balance of modern comforts combined with original features.

Blessed with a welcoming and truly relaxing ambience, the downstairs living space comprises a spacious sitting area, dining space and well-equipped kitchen.

The sitting area has plenty of stylish sofas and chairs, a fabulous feature fireplace and great views of the lush countryside.  For entertainment there is a stereo, a television, and a freeview box. A DVD player and a selection of DVDs are available on request from your hosts at time of booking.  Don't forget to pack your family's favourite DVDs.

A large wooden dining table provides room for the whole family to eat in comfort.  If you want to enjoy meals in the glorious French sunshine then the pretty outdoor dining terrace and barbecue are likely to prove popular.

The bright and well-equipped kitchen provides all the holiday essentials including an oven/hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine.

Also on the ground floor is a gorgeous double bedroom and a separate light and modern bathroom with a bath and shower over.

The open tread staircase, with child safety gates at the top and bottom, leads to three further tranquil and characterful bedrooms.

The master double bedroom is spacious and relaxing with a modern and family-sized en-suite shower room.  From this room there is single step down to a very pretty single bedroom, with space for a cot, and ideal for a baby or young child.

On the opposite side of the landing is a large twin bedroom, with a seating area, and benefitting from an en-suite shower room.

Parent Points:

  • Although the stairs are gated at the top and bottom they are open tread so children will need to be supervised.
  • There is a small step down from the master double bedroom to the adjoining single bedroom.

Outdoors

The large courtyard garden at the front of La Petite Ferme is very private and fully-enclosed with plenty of space to relax and dine.

A super furnished outdoor dining area is set on a raised terrace beneath a pergola and a barbecue is nearby.

There are also two sunny seating areas - one on a paved section with dappled shade from an ancient Yew tree - perfect for making the most of the fabulous French weather.

And, if simply sunbathing is high on your holiday wish-list then there are plenty of loungers.
The garden is just a stone's throw from an inviting heated swimming pool, shared with four other properties in L'Hammeau.

Fully-enclosed by a wall and fence, with a secure gate, the heated pool has a shallow section for toddlers and babies. There are also sunny and covered areas to relax on the many loungers.

Being so close to La Petite Ferme means the baby monitor - one of the items supplied in our Tots Essential Kit Guarantee - is within range of the swimming pool. So, if you want, you could take a peaceful dip while your little one is having an afternoon nap. Of course, the close proximity also means the sound of families having fun at the pool can be heard in the garden.

Just a short walk away are the resort's wide range of other family-friendly facilities.

Parent Points:

• There are several stone steps down from the path to the courtyard garden gate
• The raised dining area is fenced, but please take care with little ones
• A considerable distance - on the other side of the golf course - from La Petite Ferme are two open lakes which, because of their size, can not be fenced for safety

What's Around?

A family holiday in this idyllic region of France can be as relaxing or as energetic as you like - with fun-filled activities, picturesque villages, historical treasures and, a little further afield, fabulous sandy beaches.

Saint-Séverin
There are a number of pretty villages within easy reach of Longeveau and the nearest, at just 5km, is Saint-Séverin.
Home to several small shops, including a bakery, butcher, chemist and supermarket, and local services, there is also a popular small market every Thursday morning.

Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne
In the opposite direction, and about the same distance, is one of France's 'most beautiful villages' Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne.
The village clings to a hillside above the River Dronne and features narrow streets, shady squares with pavement cafes and lots of sites of historical interest.
The puppet theatre in the central square is popular with kids and adults alike, with classic tales such as Beauty and the Beast and Ali Baba. The shows are extremely popular and booking is essential.
The village is famous for its Underground Church of St Jean, or monolithic church, carved out of the rock. It's size is impressive and, at 20m at its highest point, the tallest in the world. Make sure you climb the stone staircase up to the first floor for a spectacular view of the interior.
The river beach - with fresh sand shipped in at the start of every summer - is perfect for picnics and paddling and has something for the whole family. There's also a children's playground, canoeing, kayaking and fishing - plus a great cafe.

Bonnes
Bonnes is another pretty village in a lovely location on the Dronne river and less than half an hour from Longeveau.
There's a pony club for all ages and abilities and a beautiful 11km countryside walk, Circuit de Bonnes.
A festival is held in August when the grand finale is a spectacular fireworks display.

Riberac
The quiet town of Riberac comes alive on a Friday morning when it holds a weekly market, reputedly one of the biggest and best in the Dordogne.
Just 16km from Longeveau, there are also lots of local shops, including wine caves, a couple of big supermarkets and plenty of child-friendly restaurants.
Free music evenings are held in the town square on Tuesday nights in July and August.

La Jemaye
This little hamlet is well-known for its large lake with beaches, a play area and family-friendly eateries and is an easy half-an-hour's drive from La Petite Ferme.
There are also woodland walks and a hide to watch the birds on the lake.
During July and August there are sporting activities and events, including water skiing and cycling.

Angoulème
The capital of Charente, the ramparted city of Angoulème is home to stunning architecture, traditional markets and beautiful gardens.
A 45-minute drive from Longeveau, the city centre has a myriad of shops from familiar high street names to traditional French boutiques.
Take time out to visit one of the many pavement cafes or dine in a choice of family-friendly restaurants.
The city is the world capital for Bande Dessinée - comic strip - and many of the buildings are decorated in this style. There's also a fascinating museum dedicated to the art.
In Angoulème's mountain shopping zone you'll find Kizou Adventures - an indoor playground with all the usual ball pools, ropes and soft play, for little ones aged from six months to 10 years.
While just outside the city is the fabulous Plan d'Eau water lake with several beaches - perfect for a bit of bucket and spade fun - and a wide range of water sports.

Cognac
Cognac, about an hour away from Longeveau, is famous for the grape-based spirit made in the town for more than 300 years.
Stroll through its narrow streets with a mix of fabulous medieval timber framed houses and grander mansions.
By the river you'll discover the ancient warehouses that still store barrels of cognac and are blackened by the alcohol evaporating.
A cruise on a replica gabarre, the traditional flat-bottomed oak boat that once transported cognac, salt and other produce, is a great way to see the town from the river and takes about two hours.
Signposted walking routes lead visitors through different parts of the town - either to explore the era of the salt trade and brandy industry or the urban growth that took place in the 19th century thanks to economic development.
Unsurprisingly, one of the most popular tourist attractions is a tour of one - or more - of the many big name cognac producers to find out about the drink's history, how it is made and sample a tasting.
Why not combine a trip to Cognac with a fun-packed visit to nearby Les Antilles de Jonzac indoor water park?
One of the largest in Europe this attraction will appeal to youngsters and adults alike.
For the little ones the centrepiece is a main lagoon with beaches, palm trees, a tropical glasshouse, slides and water toboggan ride.
For more serious swimmers there's a 25m sports pool and games and events are organised for children and teenagers.
For the grown-ups the fitness and health centre includes Turkish and Roman baths, a sauna, jacuzzis and a solarium - and, if you're feeling energetic, there's a fully-equipped fitness area.
A beauty area offers a variety of treatments and spa treatment services.

Saint-Emilion
A little further afield Saint-Emilion is one of the four Bordeaux wine regions and produces some of the finest wine in the world.
The village, about an hour-and-a-quarter from Chez Jean, is surrounded by vineyards and chateaux and there are lots of opportunities to sample and buy.
Even without wine, Saint-Emilion would deserve a visit - with pretty winding streets, pavement cafes, restaurants, local shops, and historical buildings and monuments.
The Romanesque church features a beautiful 14th century cloister and if you climb the bell tower you'll be rewarded with magnificent views over the town and surrounding vineyards.
There's also a great view from the top of the Chateau du Roy 13th century donjon in the centre of town - after you've negotiated the 118 steps.
A labyrinth of passages and rooms run deep under the village and there are guided tours taking in the catacombs and the impressive buried monolithic church, the biggest in Europe.
There's also an underground pottery museum with exhibits from the Roman period to modern day.

Beaches
Two of the best beaches in the region can be found about a two hours' drive from Longeveau - Arcachon and Royan.
Arcachon is busy throughout the year and is popular with French families. It's easy to see why. Superb sandy beaches, a picturesque sea-front promenade, plenty of shops, bars and eateries - topped off by the town's signature ornate architecture.
For the little ones, the resort is also home to the fun-packed Aqualand water park with rides and slides for all ages.
Royan's beaches are among the finest in France.
The main 2km long La Grande Conche has a children's section with a variety of fun activities and a lifeguard in the summer.

And more....
A host of other leisure activities are available within the local area from jet skiing and quad biking to mini-golf and go-karting.
The local villages and towns also host a variety of family-friendly festivals, fetes and fireworks displays throughout the summer.
