Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

As you step into Bougainvillea, you can’t help but feel immediately at home.

With light streaming in from all the windows, the main villa has a great open plan living space; with a circular dining table, perfect for relaxing family meals and a comfy sofas next to the television and DVD.

The shaker style kitchen is perfect for conjuring up your culinary delights while the family gather round the handy breakfast bar. And of course it’s equipped with all the modern essentials.

The first twin/double is just off the entrance hall and has a wonderful en suite, with walk in shower. The second is right next to the family bathroom; both are bright and airy with lovely views onto the gardens.

The third double bedroom, with basin and loo, is in the annex cottage, accessed from the far side of the garden – ideal if you’re holidaying with friends or family, to give you that little bit extra personal space.

All air-conditioned and with WiFi included.

Parent Point:

  • The annex cottage is perfect for a couple, or a couple with a baby in a cot, but with stairs to the open mezzanine double room, it would not suit small children or adults with mobility issues.

Outdoors

The grounds of Bougainvillea are a delight. The villa is surrounded by mature trees and flowering scrubs, offering complete privacy and tranquillity - other than the birds chirping away.

There’s a lovely large lawn to the front, perfect for the odd kick around and plenty of shady spots to hide away with a good book.

With several covered terraces to choose from you will be spoilt for choice for outside dining space and just to the side of the villa is a large fully fitted outside kitchen and dining area. The space is shaded by a beautiful covering of Bougainvillea.

And when you fancy chilling by the pool, pick your favourite sun lounger on the wide stone patio, and relax while the children enjoy a great splash around; the pool has a lovely long sloping access, perfect for little legs to paddle in and out.

Parent Points:

  • There are a couple of steps from the outside kitchen area, leading down to the lawn
  • The pool is securely enclosed with a fence, but little ones will need careful supervision when playing around the pool area; there is quite a drop towards the back of the terrace and steps leading to a wooded area. There are also some largish boulders, which will be very tempting to climb!

What's Around?

Búger
Just 3kms from Bougainvillea, the village of Búger, the place for everyday essentials.  Simply wander round its charming streets and shady squares, keeping an eye open for the wonderful windmills dotted around. The Moli de Can Garindo, in particular has been fully restored to its former glory and the church of Sant Pere, is also well worth a visit. Market day is Saturday, if you’re looking to pick up some tasty treats.

Beaches
Which ever direction you head out around the island you’re sure to come across stunning beaches – but Cala Mesquida – ArtaCala Mesquida, to the east is well worth a look. It’s a little more remote than many, with 300 metres of lovely white sand and crystal clear waters, and is a great spot for families looking for a bit more room to have fun on the beach. To the west of the beach there’s a small resort with a few shops and restaurants, to keep you well fed and watered on your day out.

Caves
If you head south east from Búger, you’ll find the pretty harbour resort of Porto Cristo, packed with lots of lovely fishing boats. It’s also home to the caves of Drach – ‘the Dragon Caves’. Beautifully lit, you can take in the magnitude of these incredible formations, along well laid out paths, or drift over Lake Martel through the illuminated caves on an underground boat trip. There are also lovely gardens to have a good run around afterwards and a bar for a well earned drink!

Other days out
Towards the west of the island the towns of Sóller and Fornalutx make great days out. Sóller is the end destination of a wonderful train journey from Palma and is known for its amber-coloured train with authentic wooden carriages; it’s a lovely place to peruse the shops, have lunch, or hop on the little tram to go down to the port. Sóller is also well known for its ice cream! So make sure you call in to Sa Fabrica de Gelats, a friendly little artisanal ice cream factory, just off the main square, by the tram stop.

Fornalutx is pretty well on route to Sóller; it’s a lovely little village regarded by many as ‘the most beautiful village on Mallorca, and one of the most stunning in Spain!’ It’s known for the strange symbols painted on many of the tiled rooftops; pick up a leaflet showing where the best ones are, and take the kids on a hunt round the village to spot as many as you can.

Water parks
If you’re feeling like some water park fun, it’s worth heading down towards Palma for Western Water park, just outside Magaluf or Aqualand in El Arenal to the south of Palma.
