Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

Fresh, subtle décor and oodles of space, this country house has been completely modernised to a very high standard, resulting in a tasteful blend of contemporary design and traditional features.  The exposed stone walls, large windows and patio doors enhance the bright, light living space.

Downstairs, the enormous sitting room has comfy sofas for you to snuggle into and for your entertainment needs a huge television with DVD player, Sky box hosting UK satellite channels, Wi-Fi, and an iPod docking station.

This room flows into a second sitting room with sofas and a large dining table and chairs, so there is plenty of room for the children to spread out in and play.  Continuing on through, there is the fully fitted kitchen with a central island and granite work surfaces.

There is also a useful utility room on this level with washing machine.  The house has underfloor heating too, so if you fancy visiting at a cooler time of year you will still feel toasty in Chez Grelon.

Upstairs, the large master bedroom is bright and airy as it has double aspect windows and a door out onto a balcony overlooking the countryside.  There is plenty of storage space both in the bedroom and on the landing area outside.

The family bathroom, which has a bath and walk-in shower, separates the master from the huge children’s room.

Here, there are three single beds and plenty of open floor space for play things; the third double bedroom has its own en suite and an adjoining seating area.  All of the rooms are spacious so will fit additional cots easily.

Parent Points:

  • There are two shallow steps down from the front door, so please take care when entering the property
  • The upstairs balcony door should be kept locked when not in use

Outdoors

The large, enclosed garden is a fantastic place to play, the kids can run, play tig-tag-toe, kick a ball or find a shaded spot for a little quiet time.

The fenced private pool will be loved by all, with Roman steps into the shallow end, which little splashers can play on.

The shaded pool house offers a place to sit or play out of the sun and is a lovely place for alfresco dining.  As the sun goes down pop on the pool lights and enjoy a warm balmy evening, French style.

You can also sit out on the illuminated terrace, where you can take in the stunning views and absorb the peaceful tranquility of rural life.

Parent Point:

  • There is a raised terrace area outside the rear of the house with steps down to the main garden and pool area; please take care when using this area with your children, the fall from here would be onto a grassed surface

One of the many beautiful positive points of Chez Grelon is that it is part of the Longeveau village collection, but is also very private, so guests can take every advantage of the many services on offer with the added benefit of having their own personal space to relax in.

Just five kilometres by road or two and a half kilometres via the country track, Longeveau village is close at hand to add that extra something special to your holiday getaway.  There are so many activities on offer for adults and children alike.

What's Around?

The Poitou-Charentes is a lovely region to explore with quaint villages, beautiful scenery, wide ranging activities for all of the family, and of course yummy food and wine.

Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne

Just five kilometres from Longeveau is the beautiful French village of Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne, where you can explore the charming narrow streets of the village with its many quality gift shops and street cafes.

The puppet theatre in the central square is popular with youngsters and adults alike, with classic tales such as Beauty and the Beast and Ali Baba.  Be sure to book though, as the shows are popular.

The river beach is a short walk from the town and is great for all of the family.  Perfect for picnics and paddling, there's also a children's playground, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and a cafe.

Saint-Séverin

Saint-Séverin is just five kilometres away.  The village has several small shops, including a bakery, butcher, chemist and supermarket, as well as local services.  There is also a popular small market every Thursday morning.

Riberac

An attractive but relatively quiet town, Riberac is buzzing on a Friday morning when it stages one of the biggest and best markets in the Dordogne.  Just 16km from Longeveau, there are also lots of local shops, including wine caves, a couple of big supermarkets and plenty of child-friendly restaurants.

Free music evenings are held in the town square on Tuesday nights in July and August.

Angoulème

The old, ramparted city of Angoulème is the capital of the Charente and home to stunning architecture, traditional markets and beautiful gardens.  It is a 45 minute drive from Longeveau, the city centre has a myriad of shops from familiar high street names to traditional French boutiques.

After indulging in some retail therapy, take time out to visit one of the many pavement cafes or dine in a choice of family-friendly restaurants.  The city is the world capital for ‘Bande Dessinée’ or comic strip, and many of the buildings are decorated in this style and there's a museum dedicated to the art.

Kizou Adventures, in Angoulème's mountain shopping zone, is a great indoor playground with all the usual ball pools, ropes and soft play, for little ones aged from six months to 10 years.  There is also a Laser Quest Adventure zone nearly next door.

And for more family fun, the fabulous Plan d'Eau water lake is just outside the city. Here you'll find a lake beach and a wide range of water sports.

Beaches

There are a few lovely beaches just under a two hour drive from Longeveau. Take a trip to Arcachon or Royan, both of which have great beaches, warm water and family-friendly facilities.

As well as several sandy beaches, Arcachon boasts a picturesque sea-front promenade, plenty of shops, bars and eateries.  The resort is also home to the fun-packed Aqualand water park with rides and slides for all ages, which is open from June to September.  Royan's beaches are, arguably, the finest in France.

The main two kilometre long La Grande Conche has a special children's section, with a variety of activities and a lifeguard in the summer.  North of the town is a series of sandy coves and unspoilt, wild stretches of beach. You could also visit the local zoo: La Palmyre.

And more...

A host of other leisure activities are available within the local area from jet skiing and quad biking to mini-golf and go-karting.  The local villages and towns also host a variety of family-friendly festivals, fetes and fireworks displays throughout the summer.
