Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

Enter through the front door and discover the warmth and appeal of this spacious, welcoming gîte.  Full of rustic charm yet newly decorated and furnished, it provides comfortable, stylish living for you and your family.

With its original oak beams and exposed stonework to enhance the cosy, traditional feel, the modern facilities and crisp décor create the perfect spot for spending time together.

The open plan design of the large seating area, diner and kitchen provides a bright comfortable space for you and your family to take it easy and enjoy your holiday.

The views from the window and French doors are likely to catch your eye as you gaze out onto the stunning French countryside.

The living area has two large comfy sofas where you can relax after having had a long day of fun.  The television can keep little ones happily watching a DVD or catching up on a popular programme on the Sky Box whilst they relax.

The large wooden dining table will seat six comfortably and the kitchen is fully equipped with the essentials for meal preparation.

Up three small steps from the living area and you will arrive at the master bedroom with its en suite bathroom.

Beautifully presented with double doors leading out onto the rear terrace, it is a wonderful place to relax in.  The room is also ideal for the grandparents, if they are holidaying with you but would enjoy their own space.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms that can be twins or doubles.  They both have their own en suite and magnificent views over the countryside.

All three bedrooms are spacious enough to take an additional cot or travel cot.

Parent Points:

  • The three small steps from the living area to the rear of the gîte are not gated at the bottom; parents need to keep an eye on small children
  • The fire place has a raised hearth whose corners are not protected; care should be taken with little ones who should be discouraged from stepping up here

Outdoors

Le Catalpa, named after the beautiful flowering tree in the garden, is accessed from a quiet country lane that passes through the hamlet.

Situated on the outskirts of Longeveau Resort, it is a private get away yet close enough to walk into the heart of the action and share in the family-friendly amenities that are on offer.

The large enclosed lawn is an ideal spot for the children to run around in and play in the fresh country air while you unwind on the comfy deck furniture, listening to the children’s happy laughter.

Up three wide, shallow decked steps and you’ll arrive at the rear stone flagged terrace.  The perfect spot for alfresco dining, cook up your locally bought produce on the barbecue and enjoy a family feast.

The fully enclosed heated, private pool is accessed from this terrace down roman steps that little ones can splash about on.

There’s private parking for your car at the side of the gîte.

Parent Points:

  • There are wide wooden steps adjoining the two terraces, so please take care with small children

When you have finished having fun outside, there is such a lot more to discover down in Longeveau centre, which is only a few minutes' walk from the gîte.

What's Around?

A family holiday in this idyllic region of France can be as relaxing or as energetic as you like.  Enjoy fun filled activities, picturesque villages, historical treasures and, a little further afield, fabulous sandy beaches.

Saint-Séverin

There are a number of pretty villages within easy reach of Longeveau and the nearest, at just 5km, is Saint-Séverin.

Home to several small shops, including a bakery, butcher, chemist and supermarket, there is also a popular small market every Thursday morning.

Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne

In the opposite direction, and about the same distance, is one of France's 'most beautiful villages': Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne.

The village clings to a hillside above the River Dronne and features narrow streets, shaded squares with pavement cafes and lots of sites of historical interest.

The puppet theatre in the central square is popular with kids and adults alike, with classic tales such as Beauty and the Beast and Ali Baba.  The shows are extremely popular and booking is essential.

The river beach, with fresh sand shipped in at the start of every summer, is perfect for picnics and paddling and has something for the whole family.

There's also a children's playground, canoeing, kayaking and fishing - plus a great cafe.

Riberac

The quiet town of Riberac comes alive on a Friday morning when it holds a weekly market, reputedly one of the biggest and best in the Dordogne.

Just 16km from Longeveau, there are also lots of local shops, including wine caves, a couple of big supermarkets and plenty of child-friendly restaurants.

Free music evenings are held in the town square on Tuesday nights in July and August.

Angoulème

The capital of the Charente, the ramparted city of Angoulème is home to stunning architecture, traditional markets and beautiful gardens.

A 45-minute drive from Longeveau, the city centre has a myriad of shops from familiar high street names to traditional French boutiques.

Take time out to visit one of the many pavement cafes or dine in a choice of family-friendly restaurants.

In Angoulème's mountain shopping zone you'll find Kizou Adventures - an indoor playground which has ball pools, ropes and soft play for little ones aged from six months to 10 years.

Next door ‘Laser Quest’ will have the whole family chasing one another with their hand held laser guns.

Just outside the city is the fabulous Plan d'Eau water lake with several lake beaches - perfect for a bit of bucket and spade fun, and a wide range of water sports.

Beaches

Two of the best beaches in the region can be found about a two hours' drive from Longeveau: Arcachon and Royan.

Arcachon is busy throughout the year and is popular with French families.  It's easy to see why when you see the superb sandy beaches, a picturesque sea front promenade, plenty of shops, bars and eateries

The town is famed for its signature ornate architecture.  Here you will see, or maybe climb, ‘La Dune du Pilat’, the tallest sand dune in Europe.

For the little ones, the resort is also home to the fun-packed Aqualand water park with rides and slides for all ages.

Royan's beaches are among the finest in France.

The main 2km long La Grande Conche has a children's section with a variety of fun activities and a lifeguard in the summer.

And more....

A host of other leisure activities are available within the local area from jet skiing and quad biking to mini-golf and go-karting.

The local villages and towns also host a variety of family-friendly festivals, fetes and fireworks displays throughout the summer.

So much to be discovered.
