Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

The Beacon is a luxury two-bed cottage, of which we have hand-selected only the three most child-friendly; they are perfect for families who want to spend time together.

Step inside and wander through to the spacious open plan living area, which has a fully-fitted kitchen, dining table and comfy sofas.

There is a downstairs cloakroom for convenient storage, a separate loo and a patio area with garden furniture.

The two bedrooms are at the top of gated stairs, each with their own en suite; the twin bedroom has an en suite shower room and the double has a six foot emperor-sized bed with an en suite bathroom.

Parent Points:

  • The outside area is not enclosed so please keep an eye on children at all times when outdoors, or when the patio doors are open

Outdoors

Little ones will be kept thoroughly entertained at this secure complex, which has a range of leisure facilities (open from Easter until the end of October) as well as a fun outdoor play area and football pitch.

The leisure facilities include an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, both of which are heated; they are great for toddlers, too, as the indoor pool has big wide roman steps to splash on and the outdoor pool has a separate shallow pool for little ones to play in.

The swimming pools are open from 9am until 9pm, so you’ll have plenty of chance to fit in some play time; for parents that want to keep up their fitness regime, there are squash and tennis courts and a fitness suite, as well as a spa pool for relaxing afterwards.

The cottage is self-catered but if you don’t fancy cooking, head to Café Azur (open from Easter until the end of October), which serves locally inspired dishes cooked with fresh seasonal produce; if you feel like a family evening in, you can order the food to your cottage, or order it to take away, depending on the season.  Plus, children under the age of five can dine for free.

If you want to explore the local countryside, the resort has self-guided walking itineraries, so you can wander at your own pace.

For a treat, there are also beauty treatments and massages available at the resort.

What's Around?

Truro

It is just a 10 minute drive to the city of Truro, where there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to explore, as well as a theatre and cathedral.

A picturesque day out, Truro has beautiful streams and rivers weaving in and out of the alleys and lanes; make sure you stop off at one of the parks for a play, too, as there are plenty dotted about.

For a bit of culture, visit the Royal Cornwall Museum, which has a range of exhibitions including natural history, ethnology, and fine and industrial arts; the real highlight is that you’ll get to see a real Egyptian mummy.

For coffee and cake, head to Fig Café, which is nestled in the lovely market lanes, serving delicious homemade cakes and pastries; if you order a hot chocolate, you may have a teddy bear drawn into the foam, which the little ones will love.

For a bigger meal, head to Trennick Mill, which is a child-friendly restaurant that serves a range of classics including fish finger sandwiches, which are actually delicious handmade goujons.

You can also enjoy afternoon tea here, with Mini Tea for the kids; there are highchairs available and the restaurant has plenty of colouring crayons and books to keep the little ones entertained.

Falmouth

A 15 minute drive from The Valley, Falmouth is a lovely port town, which is full of Cornish maritime history; there are some lovely beaches to explore, too.

Go on a fun family adventure on a boat trip, including sea safaris, where you can discover fascinating wildlife, shipwrecks and smugglers’ tales.

Falmouth Beaches

There are four beaches to explore in Falmouth including Gyllynvase Beach, a lovely Blue Flag beach, which sits in an arc of golden sand; in the summer, the sand is raked clean every morning, so little ones can make the perfect sandcastles.

Gyllynvase is the largest beach in Falmouth and has a large car park, just 100 yards away, although it is just a 10 minute walk from the town centre; there are clean public loos 20 yards and the beach is buggy-friendly, with flat access.

If you fancy a bite to eat, Beach Café is built over the beach with fantastic views from the terrace; the café is open all year and only uses local produce with best environmental practice.

Or, take a trip to the lovely cove beach at Swanpool, which adjoins Swanpool Lake Nature Reserve; during the summer, there is a bouncy castle on the beach for children to enjoy.

For lunch, there is an award-winning beach café, which serves tea, coffee, sandwiches and the all-important ice cream.

Visit the nature reserve to witness lots of exciting birds and aquatic life, or have a game of crazy golf at the course which is adjacent to the public car park (there are loos next to the car park, too).

Pendennis Castle

A great family trip, Pendennis Castle is in Falmouth, where there are loads of interactive displays and activities.

Pendennis Castle has loads of history from its original purpose as one of Henry VIII’s coastal strongholds to its more recent use as a secret base in the Second World War, it is also worth a visit just for the incredible views.

The Discovery Centre is full of hands-on activities that all ages will enjoy and, as most of it is indoors, it’s the perfect way to entertain yourself on a rainy day.  Facilities at the castle include parking, toilets, a tea room, a gift shop and souvenir guidebooks.

The tearoom is the perfect place to head with little ones as there are highchairs available and a selection of books and crayons to keep kids entertained.

They serve kids’ portions with special children’s lunch boxes with gluten- and dairy-free cakes and snacks available.

Some months, the castle is only open on the weekends, so check the website before you visit.

Newquay

It is a 30 minute drive to Newquay, where there is plenty to fill a day trip from the undersea safari at Blue Reef Aquarium to Newquay Zoo, which is next door to Waterworld – a fun water park.

For lunch, head to Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, Fifteen Cornwall, which is on the beach, with stunning views across Watergate Bay; they serve a kids’ lunch menu, which is much more exciting than the usual chicken nuggets, and you don’t need to book, just pop in from 12 noon to 2.30pm.

The menu changes daily as the restaurant only uses the best ingredients and suppliers from Cornwall and Italy to cook up Italian dishes with a local Cornish twist.
