Indoors & Outdoors

Indoors

This 500-year-old farmhouse has been fully restored with incredible detailing, so you’ll feel part of the history while having oodles of fun.

Step through the front door and into a large hallway, where there is a traditional grand piano and writing desk, leading to a laundry room, cloakroom and downstairs loo.

From here, you can wander through to the huge kitchen, which has been renovated in a traditional rustic style, with all of the little modern updates and touches that you could want.  A huge dining table sits to one side of the room, and there is an outdoor dining table for sunny days.

Through the hallway, the sitting room is divided into two areas, with a comfy seating area and a library area, which has deep comfy sofas and a fireplace to curl up by on colder days.

The main seating area is kitted out with a huge corner sofa, a television with Sky satellite channels and a DVD player - there are plenty of choices of DVD for all ages to enjoy.

Now for the main attraction, wander through to the play room, which has a huge two-level soft-play climbing frame, complete with a ball pit section.  There is also a secret reading nook, where little ones can tuck up with the books and toys that are provided.

Upstairs, there are five big bedrooms, which all have an en suite shower room or bathroom; all three double bedrooms have super-king beds, plus there is a twin bedroom and a ‘mega’-bed room, which sleeps up to four little ones on a huge comfy bed.

The master bedroom is a treat with a standalone copper bathtub, an ornamental fireplace and comfy seating area; there are Sonos speakers in the master bedroom and throughout the ground floor so you can stream music around the house.

Parent Points:

  • One of the entrances to the soft play area does have steps down; however, there is a door at the top to prevent unsupervised access, as well as a level entrance from the sitting room
  • There are some sets of steps within the house; where possible, these have been gated, but additional care will need to be taken with those who find stairs a challenge

Outdoors

Outside, the farmhouse has incredible views over the countryside, with the stunning mountains in the distance, which you can admire from the outdoor seating area.

There are several shady terraces and sofa areas for chilling and eating in, as well as a barbecue for alfresco dining.

Around the grounds, there are plenty of spots to play, including the table tennis, football nets and huge trampoline just by the outside terrace.

Further into the garden, there is an enclosed area, which is the perfect spot for toddlers to run around and play without wandering off; there is a big sandpit in this play area, which little ones will love.

The pool area is fully enclosed with netted fencing to keep the pools separate from the rest of the garden.  Through the gate, there is a big heated swimming pool, which has Roman steps and a shallow end; for babies and toddlers, there is a separate shallow pool, which is also heated.  Pool heating is a chargeable extra.

There are lots of spots to relax and chill out in the pool area, too, with big comfy benches and a covered pergola, where you can lay down and unwind.

Parent Points:

  • This house is set in a stunning hillside location, so the garden does have slopes and various steps in places where wobbly walkers will need some additional supervision
  • Typical of the area, and due to its incredible hilltop location, the access road is quite steep in places and will require some confident driving

What's Around?

Set in the beautiful countryside of Umbria, also known as Italy’s green heart, there is plenty to explore around the farmhouse, if you feel like venturing out and about.

The nearest supermarkets are in Tavernelle, which is around 10 minutes’ away; Umbria is the perfect region for tasting local food, with truffle from the hills, Norcia salami and the must-try porchetta (look out for Franco’s porchetta van, which can be found in Tavernelle on Saturday mornings).

If you fancy exploring the local food further, there are plenty of tours of vineyards and olive groves to discover the process of olive oil making.

Head to the nearby village of Tavernelle, a 10 minute drive away, to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine in the local restaurants.

Aquapark

Just at the bottom of the hill, take a trip to Aquapark di Tavernelle, a great fun day out that little ones will love; splash in the toddler pool, have a go on the water slides or play a range of sports.

The waterpark is closed in the winter months, so check before you head out.

Perugina Chocolate Factory

The home of the famous Baci Chocolate Kisses, take a trip to Perugina Chocolate Factory, in the city of Perugia, which is around a 30 minute drive from the farmhouse.

The one-hour tour around the museum and factory shows you how the chocolate is made – plus, you'll get to have a little taste.

Check opening days before you visit, as some months it is open from Monday to Friday and some months, Monday to Saturday. Book online, as there are fewer English tours than Italian across the day.

Wildlife Park

It is a 40 minute drive to Città della Domenica, a beautiful wildlife park, which is set across 45 hectares, where deer and squirrels roam free.

If you embark on one of the trails, you may get a chance to spot non-local animals further up the mountain, too, such as snowy owls, kangaroos, reindeer, ostriches, yaks and llamas.

All around the park, there are plenty of games and themed entertainment, including slides, mazes and arcades.

Take a trip in the historic train, which begins at the entrance and leads you through the enchanted forests to explore the wildlife.
