Set in the beautiful valley of Val d’Elsa, you can appreciate a true taste of Italy here, with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside, and the soaring towers of San Gimignano in the distance.
Gelso is close to the children’s play area, where you can have hours of fun. There is also a shared swimming pool, which has walk-in steps for little ones to splash about on.
No Tuscan holiday is complete without sampling the local cuisine, and you can learn to cook some of the dishes yourself at the cooking classes that Il Gelso put on. The classes end with a delicious meal and there are children’s pizza and cake classes, so the little ones can learn about Italian food too.

We had the most enjoyable week away at Al Gelso. We were looking for the perfect combination of a holiday that we would enjoy but also had everything our son would need to keep him entertained and happy. Al Gelso exceeded all our expectations, the most enjoyable was the pasta making class. Plus easy reach to both Siena & Florence. We can't wait to visit again.
The Hanlon Family, September 2016
The setting of these holiday cottages is lovely. The pool and park area is perfect for small children. The accommodation is of a very high standard and you are a short drive from a host of beautiful towns and villages. My 4 year old and I loved the on site pasta making class and the owners of the property were so friendly.

Il Gelso Bianco was fantastic. The apartment was perfect for us. It had been beautifully renovated. The staff were very helpful and were always on hand to help. I would highly recommmend Il Gelso Bianco to anyone.

Gelso is located on the ground floor of the ancient farmhouse and retains a lot of the natural character, contrasted with modern furnishings.
Steps lead up to Gelso’s patio, which has a covered seating area, looking out across trees and vineyards. The doors in from the patio lead into the dining area, which has two archways leading through to the separate kitchen and living room.
The living room has a working fireplace, which is perfect for cosying up by if you are visiting in a colder month.
Beyond the living room, you’ll find the two bedrooms: a double and a twin. The double bedroom has an en suite showerroom and there is a family showerroom opposite the twin bedroom.
Il Gelso is set in the heart of an agricultural estate that produces authentic Italian products such as Chianti wine, extra virgin olive oil, Grappa and Vin Santo dessert wine, so there are plenty of olive groves and vineyards to explore.
There is a swimming pool in the grounds, which has walk-in steps that little ones can splash on. There is lots of lawn to play on and an outdoor playground, which has equipment for toddlers and older children.
There is an onsite gym, if you fancy a holiday workout, or you could enjoy the sauna and a massage for a well-earned chance to unwind.
There is also a communal laundry room, so you don’t have to worry about the little ones getting messy.
If you can’t get enough of the local Tuscan food, check out the Tuscan menu cooking classes and homemade pasta cooking classes that Il Gelso run, where you can learn all about some delicious dishes and enjoy a meal afterwards. Do book the classes before arrival, and take your pick of a morning or afternoon session.
For the little ones, there are also pizza and cake classes, ending in a snack, which you can join them for.
If you would like to cook up some authentic dishes when you get back home, Il Gelso has a shop onsite selling some of their olive oils and wines.
Il Gelso is set in the beautiful Chianti area of Tuscany, and the nearest town is Barberino Val d’Elsa, a delightful medieval town, where there is a pharmacy, bakery, small supermarket, newsstands, a beauty parlour and post office.
It is just a 15 minute drive to Sam Gimignano, which is famous for its local wines and beautiful towers; if you take a trip to the top of one of the towers, you may be able to spot your apartment.
Head to the restaurant Cum Quibus, which serves a range of delicious Tuscan dishes with a modern flair. They are closed Tuesdays, and if you’re visiting in peak season, make sure you book.
Don’t miss Gelateria Dondoli, which is known all over the world for its original and unusual flavours, such as sorbets flavoured with aromatic herbs. The top quality ingredients are specially selected, and there is a lot of regional produce.
It is also a 35 minute drive to Florence from Il Gelso, where you can explore the famous sights. The capital of the Tuscany region, there is loads to do and lots of delicious restaurants to discover; there are stunning gardens to explore and, of course, high-fashion shops.
If you are visiting Florence in the busier months and want to avoid busy crowds, head to Oltrarno, which is also much easier to reach by car than most areas in Florence. The area is more authentic, and not filled with tourists, so there are more local Tuscan restaurants, or you can visit the Boboli Gardens to play games and enjoy a family picnic.
